Objectives:
The main objective was to expand and apply the methodology developed in Phase I to a wider range of air pollution conditions in Asia so that geographical and sectoral tradeoffs of alternative energy and abatement strategies can be addressed comprehensively.
The other objectives of the TA were to improve
1. The capacity of the decision makers and environmental institutions in Asia to quantify the adverse environmental impact of acid rain
2. Regional cooperation in addressing the transboundary movement of acid rain emissions.
Scope:
• Installing and disseminating the RAINS-Asia model in the participating DMCs
• Training key personnel in major decision-making institutions
• Running the model to estimate emission, transmission, transport and concentration of acid rain emissions in the participating DMCs
• Developing alternative power, energy and industrial policies to address acid rain emission
Conducting symposia to explore coordinated energy, power and industrial policies at the regional and subregional level
