Position: Environment Researcher
A full-time Environment Researcher is sought, to assist in implementing related projects of CAI-Asia in Asia.
Location: Manila, Philippines with local/international travel

Estimated Start Date: 1 August 2012 or earlier
Who Can Apply?
- A university degree in environmental sciences, environmental management, natural sciences, engineering, communication, and/or development-related discipline. An advanced degree in natural sciences or environmental management is an advantage
- Fresh graduate applicants will be accepted. At least 2 years experience in environment issues is an advantage
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, fluency in English, initiative and good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required, and database, statistics software, and website development experience is an advantage

Position: Research Coordinator
We are looking for one young professional from the Philippines to be posted in Indonesia, under the Clean Air and Blue Skies Asia exchange program.
Who Can Apply?
- Professionals between the ages 22 to 35
- University Degree with at least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
- Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (word, excel)
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Experience and skill in multi-stakeholder interaction with NGOs, government officials, international institutions, business groups, etc.
Terms of Reference:
- Work with the project team in coordinating the implementation of an air quality management project based in Indonesia
- Prepare a compendium of recent health impact studies around Asia building on the PAPA (Public Health and Air Pollution in Asia) study by the Health Effects Institute
- Liaise with city governments in Indonesia to collect air quality data as input into the CitiesACT database
- Write monthly spotlight articles on air quality management activities in Indonesia to be published in the CAI-Asia portal and newsletter
- Assist in the design and resource mobilization for the proposed air quality training institute for Asia
All costs (i.e., accommodation, allowance, visa and travel) will be borne by CAI-Asia.

Internships
We are accepting interns of varied qualifications for the CAI-Asia offices in Manila (CAI-Asia Center), Beijing (China Office) and Delhi (India Office). The internship opportunities available are:
A. Environment Research Assistant
- Conduct desk research on the: (i) issues facing policymakers in Asia relating to clean fuels and vehicles, (ii) existing studies which address these issues
- Assist CAI-Asia staff in packaging the research into a format that is useful for senior decision-makers
- As needed, interact with Asian policymakers by email and/or Skype to discuss these issues
Duration: 1-1.5 months
Qualifications: Environmental science or environmental management graduate or student; possesses good research skills; can work independently
B. Environment Policy Researcher
- Scan the web and provide an overview of existing databases on air quality laws and regulations in Asia and other regions
- Review studies done by CAI-Asia and collate Asia air quality legislation and regulations
- Assist CAI-Asia staff in designing an online database of Asia air quality legislation and regulations
Duration: 1-1.5 months
Qualifications: Preferably environmental science or environmental management graduate or student, however, those with policy research background are also welcome; possesses good research skills; can work independently
C. Air Quality Research Intern 1
While information and knowledge on air quality management are increasingly generated in Asia, they are fragmented in different documents and websites. To ensure that decision-makers have better access to knowledge on clean air management that can assist in policy development, CAI-Asia has been releasing publications and presentations that provide a comprehensive and comparative assessment of the status and challenges of air quality management in Asia. Starting with only 20 cities in 2003, CAI-Asia now has compiled information on air quality levels from over 200 Asian cities.
An Air Quality Research Intern 1 is sought to assist CAI-Asia in updating the “Air Quality in Asia: Status and Trends Report.”
Duration: 1-1.5 months

D. Air Quality Research Intern 2
CAI-Asia together with its partners and its country networks release Clean Air Management Profiles (CAMPs) (see here: http://cleanairinitiative.org/portal/camp2010) annually. These profiles provide a comprehensive review of the state of the air, impacts of air pollution and climate change, clean air management measures and stakeholders involvement for Asian countries.
An Air Quality Research Intern 2 is sought to assist CAI-Asia in preparing CAMP 2011 for Bangladesh.
Duration: 1-1.5 months

E. Editorial Intern
CAI-Asia together with its partners and its country networks release Clean Air Management Profiles (CAMPs) (see here: http://cleanairinitiative.org/portal/camp2010) annually. These profiles provide a comprehensive review of the state of the air, impacts of air pollution and climate change, clean air management measures and stakeholders involvement for Asian countries.
Editorial Interns are sought for CAI-Asia’s CAMP 2011, Ed.

CAI-Asia will consider suggested topics or proposed research from prospective interns, provided that it fits our mission of promoting better air quality and livable cities in Asia.
Interested applicants are requested to send their CVs and application letter to center@cai-asia.org. We offer a modest allowance and flexible time during the internship period but do not fund international travels nor provide accommodation to accepted interns.
